Day 2.. 87 miles down, 363 to go!

DAY 2 of the Asmi California Coastal Tour
Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz (55 miles)

hello from Santa Cruz!  55 miles today of mostly rolling hills, light traffic, and wide shoulders.  the weather was perfect:  sunny, not too warm, & wind at our backs.  the area is agricultural with fields of brussels sprouts, artichokes & pumpkins - not a billboard or fast food restaurant for miles.  and again, there were stunning ocean & beach views all the way down the coast.  we stopped at Pigeon Point lighthouse which is the tallest lighthouse on the west coast & Ano Nuevo State Reserve which is the largest mainland breeding colony in the world for the northern elephant seal.  you have to walk about a mile down to the beach to see the seals.  we didn't want to leave our bikes so just visited the interpretive center which is a beautifully converted old barn.  this is as close as we got to the seals:

mike decided I needed some lower gears before tackling the hills around Big Sur so we stopped by the Bicycle Ride bike shop in Santa Cru & they were able to do the work on the spot.  I need all the help I can get!  tomorrow we're off to Monterey - right now it's time for dinner!
