Just the Two of Us!

When I tell people that Mike & I are riding our bikes from San Francisco to Los Angeles, they assume we're doing one of those organized rides...you know, the ones that do everything for you but pedal:  carry your gear, tell you where to ride, change flat tires, provide all your meals, have sag wagons if you just can't go any further, etc.  Years ago, my friend Carol & I did the first Avon 3-Day walk from Santa Barbara to Malibu & it was so much fun!  Everything was done for us - all we had to do was walk!  It was a welcome respite from kids, cooking, carpooling, etc.

But Mike & I are doing this on our own:  just the two of us!   Whatever happens, we'll have to figure it out ourselves.  We have maps from the Adventure Cycling Association & a new Garmin GPS which will hopefully tell us where we are...and where we're going. Since we'll be staying in hotels, we won't need to bring camping gear but we'll still be carrying everything we need for 10 days including tires, a pump, tools, clothes, etc.  We're planning to pack very light & rinse things out at night.  You have no idea how long we've looked for lightweight shoes that aren't too bulky - every few ounces add up!  We'll load up on healthy snacks & stop along the road for breakfast & lunch.  I'm guessing dinners will be the highlight of the day ... I plan on eating ANYTHING I WANT!!
