Itinerary
They say that planning a trip is half the fun & I think that's true. Over the past few months, Mike & I have really enjoyed planning this bike ride. The first big decision was choosing our bikes, BeBop & Azul, whom you've already met. Next, we needed to decide on the route. This is what we've come up with: on Tuesday, September 21, we'll drive from Los Angeles to Palo Alto & spend the first night with our friends, Mike & Mary. We'll leave our car there & catch a ride with Mike to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco where the ride begins (don't ask me why: my Mike said he HAD to start at the Golden Gate Bridge!). The first day, we'll ride to Half Moon Bay (32 miles) where Mike & Mary will join us for dinner. Then it's on to Santa Cruz (51 miles), Monterey Bay (46 miles), and Big Sur (47 miles). We love Big Sur & plan to stay there an extra night. Virginia & Joe will fly up to retrieve our car in Palo Alto & join us in Big Sur for one night on their way down the coast. We're looking forward to dinner on the patio at Nepenthe, one of our favorite places to watch the sunset. From Big Sur, we'll ride to Ragged Point, just north of San Simeon (35 miles), then to Cayucos (37 miles), Pismo Beach (31 miles), Lompoc (44 miles), Santa Barbara (60 miles), and our final destination, Leo Carillo State Beach in Malibu (62 miles) on Saturday, October 2, 2010.
